Starting New

I've never done a blog before so this is all new to me. So, I guess I'll start by saying why I picked one Golden Eagle as my blog spot name. First off, ever since I can remember the Golden Eagle has been my favorite bird. Birds of prey of all kinds fascinate me, but the Golden Eagle is such a breathtaking creature and in my mind soars above all others and should be our National Bird, but I guess that isn't my decision.
As a 12+ year Girl Scout leader I know a lot of Girl Scout history and trivia. The Golden Eaglet was at one point the highest award a girl could earn. Now it's just known as the Gold Award. At a recent visit to the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City, my girls learned all about birds and I was thrilled to see a Golden Eagle there.
I've recently had new found freedom in my life including courage to sing and and bringing my faith back into my life. I give part of that credit to the testimony and faith of two amazing young men and talented singers, namely David Archuleta and David Osmond. To me the very thought of this is golden, and precious to me. I have met both of these young men on several occasions and have been given the opportunity to tell them both what they mean to me in my life and to thank them for their testimonies.

  1. Congratulations on your first post here. Welcome to the insane and wonderful world of blogging. I like your blog name, it works for a wide range of topics.

We need to meet some day. We seem to have several paralelles in our lives. My life was literally falling apart when I found David A. and he changed my outlook on everything. David brought music back into my life as I have joined our church choir for the first time as an adult.

I love the birds of prey also. My favorite is the Bald Eagle. It also fits into my life as I have been a Boy Scout leader for 10 yrs. My son is working on his Eagle project right now.

Look forward to more posts from you.

  2. Hi Margy! Can't wait to meet you too. I told David in a letter that I'd love to compose a book of stories about the people's lives he has changed for the better. It would have to probably be volumes instead of one book.
I love all eagles, falcons, hawks. My high school alma mater, Santa Rita in Tucson, AZ has eagles as their mascot, but they are bald eagles. I just think golden eagles are so majestic and beautiful!
My daughter isn't sure if she wants to do her gold award. It took a long time for her to finish her silver so she might wait a year to decide. She's only a sophomore and has until she's 18 to finish it, so maybe.
I'm all new to blogging and want to figure out how to do a custom background, how often is it OK to post a new blog, etc. Don't want to put up a new one until people had a chance to read the current one. :) Thanks for taking a look!

  3. Janel,
Good job on your first post. I love eagles, both bald and golden. They are just so everything marvelous--powerful, beautiful, and in charge of what they do. I've been a Boy Scout volunteer for nearly 30 yrs, and the mom of 2 Eagle Scout sons. I have developed a great respect for the 'eagle people' in my life. They are those who have power to change lives for the better, beautiful in spirit and deed, and know how to be in control of their lives so that they can help others. Hmmm, it looks like David Archuleta is one of those 'eagle people' that has come into my life. :) He has helped me discover that I am the captain of my ship. I am the one who decides what direction I'm going to go with my life. My husband is also one of those people. I've been so blessed to have him be a part of my life for the last 39 years.

Oh yeah! My school mascot?! The Mighty Red Devils! haha

Keep writing--and singing, that song you have linked is beautiful. Very soulful.

  4. Janel, I don't think that there is any right or wrong amount of time to wait between posts. Write when you feel like it. That could be every day or once a week or once a month. I've waited months and even posted twice in one day. If you don't want people to miss a post because you put up another just make sure that they can easily see several. Under "settings" go to "formatting" and then under "show at most" you select 3 or more "posts". I have mine set to 5.

I haven't tried the custom background. I added a custom header through the template designer but I know I played with it for quite a while and right now I don't remember how I did it. I know I put the images together in my photobucket account and then saved them to my PC before I brought them to the blogger. I'll try to remember what I did and let you know what I find out. It'll be a few days. Big family issues coming up for the next several days. Father-in-laws cancer is back.

This whole blogger thing is fairly easy. Whenever you get some free time just play with all of the different choices. As long as you don't click save on any of the pages, you can go back to what you already have.

Since we are sharing mascots, mine was the Mighty Rough Riders. Theodore Roosevelt, of course.
